A Day of Science
University School’s Grade 3 community went on a field trip to the Telus Spark Science Centre this week. Students had opportunities to explore various hand-ons centres such as 'Being Human'. In the program 'Tales Beneath Your Feet', we also built different landforms and had a chance to create a story about how the lands changed. Students interacted with the story 'Goodnight Moon' in the Digital Immersion Gallery, watched a Dome Show, and experienced 'VR' in the Open Studio. At the Moss Bag display in the Kids Creative Museum, our students could learn and make connections to Indigenous cultures during the field trip. Please see some of our students' reflections about the field trip.
Yesterday our class went to Telus Spark. The first thing we did was where we got to make 3 layers of our own planet and we had to tell a story about how the areas changed. We could make the deep esa, desert, swamp, water, beach or compost. We also went to a show called 'Villain's Academy' where there was this guy that used some stuff to make fire colours like green, blue and even multi-color. He also made an explosion in a jar and he had this lab assistant who was a pink balloon filled with hydrogen and the guy exploded the balloon. After that me and my group played a VR game called 'Granny's Alien Invasion" where there was a cake in the middle of the room and some aliens were invading and we're trying to steal the cake. I actually thought the cake was real so I was sad to realize that it was only in the game. -H
At Telus Spark my mom was our group leader in our group. We did a program where you go into a room and you can make up your own stories with some different foods. Ours was 'beach' and 'swamp'. It was time's up when we were just about to put 'deep water'. We did virtual reality. It was super fun. We played the fire fighter game. We went to the dome and we watched dinosaurs of antarctica. At Telus Spark it felt super short because we had a lot of fun. My favourite part was when we drew the moss bag. The indigenous people used the moss bag so their babies don't get rashes. - S
Remembrance Day Assembly
Thank you to the students and staff who organized and shared during the Remembrance Day assembly. The assembly showcased a read-aloud, Proud as a Peacock, Brave as a Lion by Jane Barclay; special guest, and University School parent, Master Sergeant Jordan Lack who shared photos, the role of Canadian Armed forces and his story; and also a performance by University School’s Senior Choir. We appreciate those families who were able to attend and remember alongside our students.

Book Fair Update
It was incredible to see so many students excited about the Scholastic Book Fair. We saw many smiling faces as students walked about with books and accessories. The fair ws a huge success and raised over $3400 which can go back into supporting literacy development at University School.
We would like to thank Mrs. Ellwood-Wright and our amazing parent volunteer Mrs. Lesser Sundberg who oragnized the event. We would also like to thank the many volunteers who helped out over the three days and all University School families who supported the book fair.
