General Health Measures
In all matters of health, CBE takes direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. Find out how you can reduce the spread and lessen the impact of illness in school communities.
Routine Immunizations
The CBE supports the AHS school-based immunization program.
It is important that you call the school if your child is absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line at 403-777-6240 ext. 1. See more on our Attendance page.
Severe Allergies
We have children at our school who are allergic to peanuts, nuts and related nut products as well as eggs and dairy products. The specifics and the severity are different for each child. While the Calgary Board of Education policy reflects the fact that trying to ban dairy, peanuts, nuts and related products from schools is unrealistic, at University School we discourage the use of these products to the greatest extent possible in the classes where children have severe allergies. We encourage parents/guardians of children with severe allergies to educate their children in making responsible decisions about how to manage these allergies on their own. Parents/Guardians should make the classroom teachers and office staff aware of health issues and provide written notification to the principal by completing the required forms.
Physical / Medical Concerns
If your child has a physical or medical condition (i.e. allergies, asthma, diabetes, etc.), please complete a Student Health Plan and Student Emergency Response Protocol Form.
If your child requires medication to be administered at school you will need to complete a Student Health Plan form. If it is a prescription medication then these forms need to be signed by your child’s physician. All medication should be brought to the office where it can be stored safely and allows all staff to have ready access to it in case of emergency. Keep in mind that children move from one learning environment to another during the school day.
If your child suffers from a severe allergy we need you to complete a Student Health Plan. All medical forms must be completed yearly at the beginning of the year and updated with any changes that arise throughout the year. It is crucial that our medical information is kept up-to-date to ensure the safety of your child. All of these forms are available from the office.
Lice
There may be times during the school year when we have cases of head lice.
If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. If your child has been exposed to lice at school we will notify you.
As a precaution, we ask all parents to check their child’s head frequently for a few weeks after any exposure. You can find more information on lice from myhealth.alberta.ca.
