September 28, 2026 | Monday Message
Hello University School Families,
As we head into a shorter school week, we have some important learning opportunities and exciting upcoming events to look forward to! This week, we will come together as a school community to recognize Orange Shirt Day and reflect on the importance of truth, reconciliation, kindness, and respect. All students and staff are encouraged to wear orange in recognition of the important day. A reminder that there is no school on Wednesday, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership in making University School such a wonderful place to learn and belong.
Here's to another great week of learning and growing together!

Orange Shirt Day – Tuesday, September 29
On Tuesday, September 29, we will gather as a school community for our Orange Shirt Day Assembly at 9:20 a.m. in the gym.
Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity to honour the children who attended residential schools, remember those who never returned home, and recognize the lasting impact residential schools continue to have on Indigenous children, families, and communities.
Inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, Orange Shirt Day reminds us that Every Child Matters. Through age-appropriate learning, reflection, and meaningful conversations, we continue to build understanding, empathy, mutual respect, and a commitment to reconciliation.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Wednesday, September 30
There will be no school on Wednesday, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage families to take this opportunity to reflect, learn, and engage in meaningful conversations about truth and reconciliation.
Healthy Hunger – Starting October 8!
Our Healthy Hunger program is back! Our first lunch will take place on Thursday, October 8, with lunch options from Subway.
Healthy Hunger is organized by our School Council and Parent Association and serves as a fundraiser to support our school.
Our confirmed Healthy Hunger events for the remainder of 2026 are:
- October 8: Subway – Lunch
- November 5: Kernels Popcorn – Snack
- December 3: Saucy Bread Pretzels – Snack
Additional Healthy Hunger dates for the school year include January 14, February 25, March 11, April 15, and May 13.
Fun Lunch Volunteers Needed!
Our School Council and Parent Association are looking for volunteers to help distribute lunches and snacks on Healthy Hunger days. If you have some time to lend a hand, we would love your support! Please ensure your CBE volunteer registration and required clearance are completed or updated for the current school year.
Fall Ball – Save the Date!
Mark your calendars! Our Fall Ball is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2026. We look forward to another opportunity to bring our school community together. More details will be shared as the date approaches!
Looking for Volunteers!
There are lots of ways to get involved at University School beyond field trips and fun lunch. We are looking for volunteers who may have some time during the school day to help with tasks such as photocopying, laminating, cutting, and preparing materials for classrooms.
Whether you can help regularly or occasionally, your time and support make a difference. If you are interested in lending a hand, please contact the school office. We would be very grateful for the extra help!
A reminder about volunteer registration: CBE volunteers are required to complete the volunteer registration process each school year. Parents and guardians can register through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account.
As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the POPA requirements and acknowledge their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form.
For more information, please visit the CBE Volunteering Information page.
Thank you to our School Council, Parent Association, and all the families who generously contribute their time to support our students and school community!
