We are so excited to welcome students back on Tuesday and can’t wait to begin a wonderful year together. To support a smooth and positive start, staff will be outside in the compound/playground areas beginning at 7:50 am to greet students and help guide them to their classes.
During this first week, teachers will focus on building classroom communities, establishing routines, and supporting students with a successful transition from summer into the school year. Families can help by ensuring students arrive on time, ready for the day, and well-prepared with healthy snacks, lunches, and water bottles.
Reminder to Parents
A friendly reminder to say goodbye to your student outside the school before they enter. This helps ensure a safe and calm start to the day for all students.
When visiting the school or picking up your child, please remember that we follow Calgary Board of Education safety protocols.
Upon each entry to the building, we ask all parents/visitors/guests to proceed immediately to the school office. In case of emergency, and for the safety of all students, staff and visitors, we need to know who is in our building at all times. Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our students safe.
- All students who are leaving early must be signed out by a parent or other person who is on the contact list in the office. Pick up is at the school office.
- Any changes in personal information such as phone numbers or emergency contacts must be reported to the office ASAP. The school needs to be able to reach someone on your contact list at all times that your child is in our care.
Class Lists
The creation of class lists is a thoughtful and deliberate process undertaken by our staff to ensure the best learning environment for every child. This work began last June and involves balancing various factors, including cohort dynamics, learning needs, complexities, social-emotional considerations, and equitable distribution of supports and resources.
We understand that this can sometimes lead to disappointment, as some students may hope to be in a specific class or with a particular friend. Your support as a parent in guiding your child through this conversation is greatly appreciated. Developing the ability to handle challenges and setbacks is a crucial part of early growth, and these resiliency skills will benefit them in the long run.
Please know that every decision is made with care, collaboration, and a deep commitment to what is best for students both as individuals and as part of a learning community. We are confident that your child will thrive in their new classroom and look forward to a wonderful year of growth, learning, and connection

Snacks and Lunches for students
As a continuation of the last few years, University School would like to provide snacks to students that may have forgotten or for families that need a little bit of help.
If your family is able to help, we would be grateful for donations of healthier food items such as fresh fruit (apples, bananas, oranges), packs of goldfish crackers, granola bars, apple sauce packets, fruit bars, etc. All items need to be single-serve and pre-packed. Items can be brought to the main doors of the school or your child can bring them down to the office. Thank you so much for your help!
Also, University School is part of the Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK) program which provides prepared healthy lunches to Calgary Schools for students who are in need. Through this program, we will be able to provide daily lunches to some of our students. If you feel as though your family would benefit from this program, please contact Ms. Bonanno (ljbonanno@cbe.ab.ca).
Looking forward to a year filled with learning, growth, and connection!
If you have any questions or need assistance as we begin the school year, please don't hesitate to reach out to our office at 403-777-6240.
Warmly,
Jennifer McTighe
