October 26 | Monday Message
Good morning, University School families!
It was wonderful to see so many of our students, families and friends enjoying themselves at last week's Fall Ball! A big thank you to our School Council and Parent Association, along with the many volunteers who helped organize and support such a fun evening. Events like these are a great reminder of what makes our school community so special.
As we head into the final week of October, we have a few updates and reminders to share.
Down Syndrome Awareness
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, an opportunity to celebrate the unique strengths, abilities and contributions of individuals with Down syndrome.
Our school theme this year, Finding Glimmers, reminds us to notice and celebrate the moments of joy, connection and belonging that make our school community special. At University School, we recognize that every child brings their own unique strengths and glimmers, and we celebrate the many ways our students contribute to our school community.
Families interested in learning more about Down syndrome are encouraged to explore the resources available through Ups and Downs Calgary and the Canadian Down Syndrome Society.
Families interested in learning more about Down syndrome and the importance of inclusion are encouraged to explore the resources available through Ups and Downs Calgary and the Canadian Down Syndrome Society.
I Care, I Matter, I Belong.
A Reminder About Morning Arrival
As our mornings become cooler, we'd like to share a friendly reminder about arriving at school on time. Instructional time begins at 8:00 a.m., with teachers starting their lessons and students settling into their learning. Arriving a few minutes early helps students feel prepared and ready to begin the day alongside their classmates.
Thank you for your support in helping everyone get off to a positive start each morning!
School Photo Retakes | Wednesday, October 28
Photo retakes with Lifetouch will take place on Wednesday, October 28.
If you would like your child to have their photo retaken, please email their homeroom teacher.
Students who are new to University School or who were absent on our original picture day in September will also have their photo taken on this day.
Veterans Food Bank Drive | October 26 to November 10
University School is pleased to once again support the Veterans Food Bank of Calgary through our annual food drive.
From October 26 to November 10, we invite families who are able to contribute non-perishable food items, toiletries or pet food.
Collection boxes will be located outside the main office.
Some of the items being requested include:
- Canned meals, soups and meal kits
- Canned meats, fruits and vegetables
- Pasta and pasta sauce
- Peanut butter, jam and condiments
- Cereals, crackers and cookies
- Pancake mix and baking supplies
- Instant coffee
- Toiletries and pet food
The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary provides food and essential resources to veterans, members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Reserves, first responders, and their families in Calgary and surrounding communities.
This is a meaningful opportunity for our students and families to show appreciation and care for those who have served our country. Every contribution, big or small, is appreciated.
Thank you for helping us make a difference in our community.
Halloween at University School | Friday, October 30
With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, students who would like to dress up are welcome to wear their costumes to school on Friday, October 30.
We ask that costumes be school-appropriate and allow students to participate safely and comfortably in learning throughout the day. Please remember that masks and anything resembling a weapon are not permitted.
Students who prefer not to wear a costume are welcome to wear black and orange or simply come dressed as usual.
We look forward to a fun and festive Friday!
School Council Meeting | Wednesday, November 4
Our next School Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 4.
All parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend. School Council is a wonderful opportunity to stay connected, learn more about what's happening at University School and share your voice in our school community.
The meeting link will be shared closer to the date. We hope you can join us!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership
Here's to another week of learning together!
