Monday Message – March 30, 2026

Hello University School families,

We hope you all had a wonderful and restful spring break. We are looking forward to welcoming students back this morning and beginning a short but busy week together.

It was great to see so many parents and guardians at Student-Led Conferences before the break. We appreciate you taking the time to come in, connect with your child’s learning, and support their growth.

As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, we ask that you please take a few moments to complete the linked survey regarding your intentions for next year (returning to University School, moving, or changing schools). This information helps us better understand our projected numbers and supports planning for the year ahead.

It is a short week ahead with a few important dates to note:

  • Thursday, April 2 – Healthy Hunger
  • Friday, April 3 – No school (Good Friday)

We also have some exciting learning opportunities for students this week, with two assemblies taking place:

Monday, March 30 – Calgary ProMusica Showcase (8:30 AM, Gym)
We are pleased to welcome a group of young musicians from Calgary ProMusica who will be performing for our students, featuring flute and piano.

Thursday, April 2 – Sir John Franklin Student Band Showcase
Students from Sir John Franklin will be visiting University School to perform and showcase their band skills. The program will include engaging learning around articulation, tempo, dynamics, and range. The performance will run approximately 50 minutes and will include a short question and answer time for students.

We are looking forward to a great week of learning and music in our school.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Jennifer McTighe and Lori Bonanno

Book Fair April 6-10

Our School Book Fair will take place from April 6–10, 2026, with Owl's Nest Books School Book Fair running the event all week, including during the Thursday evening spring concert. The fair will be set up Monday afternoon (around 1:00 pm) and taken down Friday afternoon, with each process taking approximately two hours.

Staff are encouraged to bring their classes for a preview during their scheduled library block and then plan a separate time for students to return and purchase books. You are welcome to organize visits in a way that best fits your class schedule.

Families can also shop online https://www.owlsnestbooks.com/ using the promo code UNIVERSITY, which will be active from March 23 to April 17, 2026.

Spring Concert – April 9

  • Date: Thursday, April 9, in the school gym
  • Time: We will be doing 2 concerts on this day:
    • A matinee/dress rehearsal at 1:00 AND
    • An evening performance

For the evening, we ask students to arrive at the school at 6:00. Doors for the gym open at 6:00 to families and the concert will begin at 6:30. To honour the work that all students have done, please plan to stay for the entire concert, which will end by 7:30.

Please plan to attend ONE of the concerts - we encourage any families that can attend the afternoon concert to try to, as the evening concert fills the chairs, leaving standing room in the gym and the upstairs galleries to be used as well.

With musical performances, all children are part of the team. Please plan for your child/children to be at BOTH concerts.

Planning for the 2026-27 School Year

To support with planning for the 2026-27 school year, it is important for us to gather accurate data about the number of students who will be attending University School as this can have impacts on things such as staffing, class sizes, and scheduling.

We ask that all families please complete the following form so that we can continue our planning for the upcoming school year: University School 2026-2027 Planning  – Fill out form

Please complete on or before Friday, April 3.
