Student Learning Conferences

We are excited to be able to share your children’s learning with you during the upcoming Student Learning Conferences on March 21 and 22.

This round of conferences will be student led which means your child must come with you so that they can share, demonstrate, and celebrate their learning with you. You will be booking a 30 minute time slot to explore your child’s learning and the classroom. Each time slot may be shared with up to two other families. Therefore, there may be brief opportunities to check in with your child’s teacher but this is not the time to have specific 1 on 1 conversations. If this is required we ask that you contact your child’s teacher to schedule a time to meet.

Student Learning Conferences for Grades 1- 6 will be held on Thursday, March 21 from 3:30pm to 7:30pm and on Friday, March 22 from 8:00am to 12:00pm. Conferences for Kindergarten Students are on Thursday, March 21 from 8:30 am to 7:30pm and on Friday, March 22 from 8:00 am to 12:00pm.

Beginning, Saturday, March 16 you will be able to use your MyCBE PowerSchool account to book a 30 minute conference with your child’s homeroom teacher.

To access My School Conferences and book your conference beginning on November 18 please visit :  MyCBE | PowerSchool - Once signed in go to > myCBE Apps > my School Conferences.

If you do not yet have a MyCBE account, please go to the  MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).

School Council Follow up

Thank you to all that attended the meeting this last Wednesday. We have seen an increase in community participation and appreciate hearing from everyone.

We have a few hopes and plans for the upcoming months. We are looking for interested volunteers to help support and implement these ideas. If any of the ideas below resonate with you in any way, please contact us at universityschoolcouncil@gmail.com

 1) Family Movie Night. The tentative plan is to host a Family Movie Night one evening in April, date to be decided. If you would be interested in helping plan or run this evening, please reach out to the Council email. We are also looking for donations of snacks/treats for the evening, to cut down on the costs. If you own a company or know of a business that may be able to donate something, please reach out.

 2) Instagram (or other Social Media) Account. We are looking for someone who is interested in running a University School Council social media page. The purpose of this account would be to build community and share ideas in a timely manner. If you are interested, please reach out to the email above.

 3) "Cultural Connections". Some families suggested that we share more about our cultures with each other. We would like to invite people to send descriptions or stories about their cultural practices to be shared in the weekly message (or hopefully eventually on a social media platform!) For instance, if you celebrate Ramadan, St. Patrick's Day, etc. you could write a short blurb about what that looks like. Anyone interested can contact the email listed above.

Thank you,

University School Parent Association and School Council

University School Merchandise

An opportunity to purchase University School Merchandise is back! In collaboration with Big Mountain Activewear, University School will have an online store that features school merchandise such as t-shirts, hoodies, hats, bags, pants, shorts etc. All items listed are available in youth and adult sizes.

Click here to access the University School Spirit Wear 2024 - Online Store

The online store will be open until Monday, March 25 and orders will be paid directly to Big Mountain Activewear. No orders will be accepted after this date. Purchased items will be individually wrapped and delivered to the school and handed out to students during school hours for the week of April 15. Please note there are no exchanges or refunds.

To support sizing, we will have some t-shirt samples available near the office.

Learn and Share - School Planning

We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we are asking you to share your perspectives about our school development plan, school budget and school fees.

* The survey is open until March 31

Please click here to complete the survey.

Here is a link to the presentation that was shared at the last school council meeting.

Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning.

Your input is important to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspectives.

Spring Concert

We are less than a week away and students have been working hard, learning songs and playing instruments to share with you all!

Date: Thursday, March 14, in the school gym

Time: We will be doing two concerts on this day:

  • Matinee/dress rehearsal at 1:00pm AND
  • Evening performance at 6:30pm

For the evening, we ask students to arrive at the school at 6:00pm. Doors for the gym open at 6:00pm to families and the concert will begin at 6:30pm. To honour the work that all students have done, please plan to stay for the entire concert, which will end by 7:30pm.

Please attend one of the concerts only - we encourage any families that can attend the afternoon concert to try to, as the evening concert fills the chairs, leaving standing room in the gym and the upstairs galleries to be used as well.

With musical performances, all children are part of the team. Please plan for your child/children to be at both concerts

I am so thrilled that we get to share our work with everyone, live and in person! See you on March 14!

Mrs. Copithorne

Ramadan Mubarak!

University School wishes all of our families celebrating Ramadan peace and happiness. Ramadan Mubarak! We will be providing alternate spaces for students who are fasting at lunch and do not wish to remain in their classroom.

Fun Snack - Kernels Popcorn - March 14

Next week is the super popular Kernels Popcorn. This snack will be handed out on Thursday, March 14, and the last day to order is today, Saturday, March 9.

We are continuing the highly successful option in Healthy Hunger for families to donate / buy snacks for friends so that the school can purchase items for those students who are unable to do so themselves. It is wonderful seeing University School community coming together to help each other out.

Students who are fasting can bring their popcorn home to share with their families.

Please visit Healthy Hunger to purchase the Kernels Popcorn fun snack or to view future snacks and lunches.
