Connecting Through Dance
We are so proud of the hard work and practice that Univesity School students put into learning their dances. Thank you to all of the families who joined us on Friday for the Dance Showcase where you got to share in the join that dance brought to the students.
Mr. Lang’s favourite part was seeing the entire school and our adults guests dancing together with the help of Mr. Moi and the Kindergarten students. Dance is just one way that we can celebrate together and is a fun way to bring our school community closer together.
We would like to thank Mr. Moi from Sound Kreations for increasing student confidence, allowing so many students to shine, and introducing new styles of dance and forms of movement during the two week residency.
We would also like to thank the University School Parent Association and School Council for their generous financial support. It is through their efforts and fundraising that we are able to subsidize the cost of such experiences for all families reducing the cost by close to 80%. This is also true for the photography residency that began at the end of June.
Valentine’s Day
The themes of friendship, kindness, generosity and belonging are valued and considered everyday at University School. We will be using the month of February to reflect and focus on these themes as they also relate to Pink Shirt Day which takes place later in the month.
We are inviting all students to where, red, white, or pink to school on Wednesday, February 14!
We also recognize that there are many important and fun traditions associated with Valentine’s Day. As a result, many classes will be engaging in safe and fun activities that focus on friendship, kindness, generosity, and belonging during this time. It is optional to send in Valentine cards for classmates. If your child is bringing Valentine cards to school, ensure they have one for every child in the class. We are unable to provide student lists so it may be easiest to add who the card is from and not put names on who they are for. As a reminder, we have students in many classes with food related restrictions, sensitivities, allergies and therefore ask you to refrain from sending treats.
Lunar New Year & Seollal
Happy Lunar New Year and Seollal to those families who are starting to celebrate this Saturday, February 10. May the new year bring health and happiness to you and your family.
Registration for the 2024-25
Registration for all new students to University School remains open!
Information for registering your child for kindergarten can be found on the CBE website or accessing the following link Kindergarten - Great Learning Starts Here. Registration can be completed online through School Engage.
We are planning an open house in later spring for all families interested in attending University School for the 2024-25 school year.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to University School!
If your child is already a student of University School and will be returning next year then there is no need to register as you are automatically re-enrolled.
Alberta Education Assurance Survey - Grade 4
Each year Alberta Education conducts a survey. The Alberta Education Assurance Survey is now open and closes March 1, 2024. Alberta Education uses the Assurance Survey as a way for school authorities to measure their success and assess their progress towards meeting their learning goals.
Parents / Legal Guardians of children in grade 4, 7 and/or 10, will receive their survey in the mail from Alberta Education. You are encouraged to complete the survey online. Students and all teachers will complete their surveys online at school.
Your voice matters. Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving. Alberta Education and Calgary Board of Education thank you for returning the parent Assurance Survey promptly. If you have questions, please contact the school.

Dear University Families,
The Grade 4 students had a wonderful presentation from the Calgary Humane Society two weeks ago. As a result, Room 18 is looking to gather donations for the Calgary Humane Society to support their work. You can bring donations to school from February 1-14 and there are boxes set up in the lobby.
This is what they need:

You can check the full list out at the humane society website along with a list of what they don’t want. You also have the ability to donate money online if you would like. https://www.calgaryhumane.ca/donate/donate-money/
