Photo Gala - Thursday, May 23

Students have been busy over the last few months exploring their creativity and learning proper photography techniques. All of this hard work is going to be showcased in a Photography Gala the night of Thursday, May 23.

Families are invited to drop in between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm to view the more than 700 photographs on display and to share in the excitement as you celebrate the achievements of the students.

Zoo Field Trip

On Monday Room 22 (Kim’s class) went to the Calgary Zoo for an amazing field trip. Students attended the Custom Plant Trek Program. They observed the animals that they researched at school and made connections to their knowledge and experience at the zoo. They also close-up sketched characteristic parts of the animal and observed the various animals at the zoo. The students formulated their questions and wonders carefully and had opportunities to ask experts there!

Looking for LEGO

University School is looking for LEGO to add to our Learning Commons and Maker Space! This will allow students another tool to create and build with as a way of demonstrating their learning.

If you have any spare LEGO or LEGO that you no longer want University School would be happy to have it. All donations can be brought down to the office. Thank you for your help!

Ready to Paint the Pavement

Thank you so much for all your thoughtful and creative designs! University School whole-heartedly embraced this project and we can not wait to Paint the Pavement together. We have been approved to paint on May 24, 25 and 26. The locations are as follows:

  • May 24, 4 PM to 6 PM, Utah Dr NW in front of University School
  • May 25, 9 AM to noon, Uxbridge Dr at Utah Dr NW
  • May 26, 9 AM to noon, Utah Dr at Urbana Rd NW

We are sorting through designs right now (we received over 150 from University School alone!!!) and will communicate more information in the next week. Until then, please mark your calendars for one (or all!) of these painting days. We can't wait to see this project come to life with your help.

Please note - there will be some temporary road closures to allow for safe painting and to give time for the designs to dry. Friday's closure will be minimal but if your child attends Summit, be aware you may have to park a little further away. All sidewalks and crosswalks will be open during painting.

University School Council is hosting a Family Movie Night!

On Thursday, June 6th @ 6:00 PM we welcome families to join us in the gym of the school to watch the movie 'Despicable Me'. Entry will be by donation and snacks will be available by cash concession. We are hoping to gather numbers ahead of time to plan appropriately.

If you are planning to attend, please help us out by filling out this Google Form: https://forms.gle/9p1TaBSCbpUsJoCH8

Additionally, we would LOVE to make our concession as affordable as possible, so we are looking for any donations or connections to help gather snacks at a low cost. We will need some volunteers to help with the entrance donation and the concession. Please email universityschoolcouncil@gmail.com if you have any suggestions for low-cost/free snacks or can help volunteer.

**This event is to gather families together. Students MUST attend with adult supervision, children are not permitted to enter unless with an adult.**

University School Council has started a Facebook page.

We invite members of the community to join to hear about upcoming events and ways to get involved. This is run by volunteers of Council and is not affiliated with the school.
