Sports Day and Picnic - We Need Volunteers
University School’s Sports Day will take place on the morning of Thursday, June 19, from approximately 10:00 AM to 11:40 AM.
To help make this event a success, we need volunteers to help with stations and support staff. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up but we still need between 10 and 15 more to make it happen. If you are available and have current volunteer clearance with the school, please email me at your earliest convenience.
Following Sports Day, we invite all current University School families to join us for a picnic lunch on the school field, from approximately 11:40 AM to 12:25 PM. Please note that lunch will not be provided, so students and families will need to bring their own meals.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a fun and active day together!

Fun Snack - Kernels Popcorn
The final fun snack of the year is Kernels Popcorn and it will be on Tuesday, June 24 . Orders must be placed at least 5 days before the delivery date, so for this fun snack that is, Thursday, 19.
With this fun snack, there is the opportunity for families to donate / buy snacks for friends so that the school can purchase items for those students who are unable to do so themselves. It is wonderful seeing University School community coming together to help each other out.
Please go to Healthy Hunger to order your fun snacks and fun lunches.
Honouring the Summer Solstice
June is a joyful time in our school and in nature — a time of growth, celebration, and change. As the days grow longer and warmer, we see signs of the season all around us: fresh green grass, blossoming flowers, baby animals being cared for, and sparkling sunlight dancing on water. These are reminders that Na’a (Mother Earth) is fully awake, and Niipo (summer) is near.
On Friday, June 20, we will mark the summer solstice — the longest day of the year, when Na’toosi (Grandfather Sun) reaches his highest point in the sky and shines the longest. This day has deep meaning in many Indigenous communities, where it is a time for renewal, connection, and ceremony. Blackfoot Elder Saa’kokoto shares that summer is a season of abundance — a time to gather not only food but also life’s experiences, which help shape who we are becoming.
As the school year comes to a close, the solstice invites us to reflect with gratitude — for what we’ve learned, how we’ve grown, and all the possibilities ahead. We encourage families to take a moment together on this special day to look to the East and welcome the light, the warmth, and the opportunities of summer.
As the sun rises on solstice morning, we invite you to take a moment with your family to look to the East, reflect on the growth of the past months, and welcome the opportunities that summer brings.
