Jump Rope for Heart! - Last Week
Students have been practicing some awesome skipping and heart-pumping activities in support of Jump Rope for Heart. Students have been learning some healthy habits that they can use to keep their hearts and brains healthy and help reduce their of developing heart disease and stroke later in life.
University School students are raising money to help the Heart and Stroke Foundation drive important heart and brain research that will save lives, prevent heart disease and stroke and support families living with these conditions. So far, we have only reached about 20% of our $2000 school goal.
If you, your family, or your friends would like to donate to University School’s fundraising efforts, please go to this link: https://jumpropeforheart.crowdchange.ca/81516.
We will be having a jump rope showcase during our school assembly on Friday, April 25.
Frisbee Rob Residency
Students at University School have been exploring the sport of Frisbee while developing their physical literacy and growth mindset. Frisbee Rob began the residency with a kickoff assembly where he challenged students to push their limits, embrace failure, and develop a lifelong love for movement and physical literacy. He encouraged students to slowly replace some of their screen time with something active that they enjoy doing. He supports failing through unstructured play using frisbees to help students build confidence, resilience, and the skills they need to stay active for life.
Frisbee Rob currently holds 13 Guinness World Records, 14 World Championships and the Canadian Distance Record, which helped inspire students and allowed his messages to stick. Each class participated in multiple sessions with Rob where students developed their frisbee skills through structured progressions, built confidence in movement, experienced a variety of frisbee disciplines, and embraced a growth mindset to strengthen resiliency by learning through repetition, challenge and success.
Thank you to University School’s School Council and Parent Association for sponsoring this awesome experience for our students!
